Post-Implant Food

ree

If you are thinking about getting dental implants or already have them, you are concerned about what you can eat or not.

Today I want to share some food choices I recommend to my patients after their dental implant surgery to help them enjoy their new and beautiful smiles without the risk of unexpected issues because of improper eating habits.

During the first 24-48 hours, most of my patients stick to a cool liquid diet, which means:

  • Consume only cool liquids, avoid any hot foods or beverages,

  • Do not drink from a water bottle or through a straw that requires suction since this could put pressure on your dental implant,

  • Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages for at least a few days after surgery.

A couple of days after the dental implant surgery, they only eat cold foods that are packed with nutrients and do not require significant chewing:

  • Cold soups: They are very nutritious and taste great. You have a wide range of options to choose from for cold soups.

  • Smoothies: Smoothies do not require any chewing, so they are ideal for the next couple of days after surgery. On top of that, they are filling and easy to pack with essential vitamins, protein, and other nutrients to keep you well-nourished.

  • Applesauce: Instead of biting an apple, you can think about making applesauce that includes all the same nutrients as the apple itself.

  • Other cool liquid foods: You can also enjoy different liquids foods such as fruit juices and nectars, pudding, milk, and milkshakes.

After 1-2 weeks, you'll be able to start adding your regular meals back into your diet:

  • Tender meats and fish: Just make sure you are not putting too much stress on your implants when chewing meat or certain types of fish.

  • Pretty much any regular food items that don't require too much pressure to chew: Macaroni and cheese, pancakes, rice, soft bread, cooked vegetables, eggs, pasta, and more.

Of course, everything will depend on how quickly you heal. Every patient is different, and that's why we provide long-term support for you, especially during the healing process.

This is crucial to secure the longevity and safety of your amazing new smile.
